BANGI, Sept 14 – Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Sapuan Salit @ Sinon, a lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), was the first recipient from Malaysia to receive the William Johnson International Gold Medal Award at the Advances of Materials Processing Technologies Conference (AMPT 2023) here, yesterday.

Prof. Ir. Dr Mohd Sapuan, a professor in composite materials and head of UPM's Advanced Engineering Materials and Composites Research Centre (AEMC), said the award was in recognition of individual achievements in research and teaching of Materials Processing.

"I am thrilled to receive this prestigious award and proud to be the first Malaysian to be awarded after 25 years of attending the AMPT conference since 1998.

"The award was created to commemorate Professor William Johnson by members of the AMPT Steering Committee together with his colleagues at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) who excelled in this field," he said.

The AMPT Steering Committee Chairman, Professor Dr. M.S.J. Hashmi, completed the award here at the Tenera Hotel.
