UPM wins 23 gold medals at MASUM 2023

SERDANG, August 3 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has won 23 gold medals in phase 1 and phase 2, as well as the runner-up position for this edition of the 2023 Universiti Malaysia Sports Council (MASUM) Sports Carnival.

The Director of Sports Academy, UPM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tajularipin Sulaiman said that he was proud that the UPM team succeeded in surpassing the target of 20 gold medals, and with this achievement, he hopes that UPM will continue its efforts to be the overall champion of MASUM in the future.

"I would also like to express my gratitude for the efforts of the athletes and team officials as well as the secretariat who have invested energy throughout this edition of the MASUM Sports Carnival, and such spirit is pertinent to achieving more successes," he said.

In Phase 1 of the MASUM Carnival at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) from the 15th to the 20th of August, the UPM team won 34 medals, consisting of 14 gold, 10 silver, and 10 bronze.

Then, in Phase 2 of the MASUM 2023 Sports Carnival at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) from the 23rd to the 30th of August, the UPM team did not disappoint when they managed to win 9 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals.

The UPM team also successfully defended their position as champions in the Rugby 15's, Men's Hockey and Women's Hockey, and Netball at the 2023 MASUM Sports Carnival.

Earlier, UPM participated in the MASUM Sports Carnival 2023, involving 16 events, which also saw the participation of 20 other Malaysian Public Universities (UA).
